Spotlight: Bullitt Summer Festival Listing

Header

It’s finally summertime, the official season of music festivals! Don Diablo sums it up best in this month’s IDJ magazine when he says, “I personally prefer playing at festivals because you have a big stage and you can get a little bit more crazy. It also brings a little bit of extra magic when the sun is shining during an outdoor stage set or when it starts raining cats and dogs and everyone is trying to get inside the tent.”

So where can you bask in the summer sun and catch your favorite Bullitt artists spinning outside, beachside, or countryside? Check out our official festival listing and catch Dubfire, Nic Fanciulli, Umek, Cedric Gervais, Sultan, and all the rest. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Dubfire and Oliver Huntemann’s Creative Collaboration

Header

Dubfire and Oliver Huntemann are usually separated by a continent or two, but they use the best of technology and communication to keep their vibrant collaboration alive. In the wake of their latest release, Fuego, and ahead of three more planned releases, Dubfire and Oliver sit down to answer our questions.

What is this series about? Can you give us some background information?

Oliver: Rather than continue to release random, sporadic singles, we decided to get behind a concept and dedicate four tracks to the classical elements of life (using the familiar Spanish translations): Fuego (Fire), Terra (Earth), Agua (Water), and Aire (Air). While “Fuego“ seemed destined to be the first step forward, the rest will follow in whatever order feels right to us, musically.

Dubfire: Another reason for the creation of this series is to keep our collaboration going since we seem to be on a mutually inspiring musical path. After “Diablo”, “Dios” and now “Fuego,” we’ve found our joint working rhythms to be in perfect sync.

Sounds like a special project....

Oliver: We tried to make it as musically and visually unique as possible, especially with respect to the vinyl format; which will showcase an etched B-side to give it a collector’s value. Moreover, the series is a collaboration not only between Ali and I but also between our labels – SCI+TEC Digital Audio and Ideal Audio, with each label alternating the individual releases.

How did you two actually meet?

Oliver: Funny enough, we met through MySpace! Ali sent me a private message telling me that he liked my sound. I also thought the same of his productions. Somehow we seem to be after the same vibe. We discussed the possibility of a remix swap, but then thought that it might be cool to simply do something together. And the fact that we have the same studio setup – namely the prevailing use of Logic – as well as two extremely gifted engineers, also helped a lot.

Do you have any further collaborations planned?

Dubfire: The plan is to finish the series with 3 more tracks; each stylistically reflecting their element. Beyond that, we’ve made no real plans but I’m sure that there will be the sporadic burst of creativity - it would be a shame not to explore our combined artistic potential.

How do you manage to work on the tracks together when you are not even in the same country?

Dubfire: Simply put, we use modern technological advancements to facilitate our collaborative partnership: we send sessions back and forth to each other until the project is completed to our joint satisfaction. Perhaps being in the studio together could yield similar results but we are both far too comfortable in our own environment to feel the need to work in closer proximity.
