A 30-second video surfaced in late July in which features Dubfire using a never-before seen Traktor DJ System. Watch the full video here.

Dubfire remained characteristically tight-lipped even in the wake of the thousands of
comments and questions that flooded industry blogs, and his silence was followed in suit
by manufacturer Native Instruments. Little information is available about the technology,
but Native Instruments promises to release more info during the month of August.

Tech Talk sheds light on the ever-evolving technological side of DJing and producing. Early adopters, look here as our artists show off their latest gadgets and obsessions. Everyone else - just try to keep up! This month, Slovenian legend Umek invites the Bullittin behind the curtain.

What piece of technology do you find yourself using most during tours, and why?
(This could be any piece of technology: cell phone, e-reader, wireless charger, etc)
In today’s overflow of new hi-tech gadgets, I still make the most use of my laptop. It’s a piece of my home and studio that I carry with me wherever I go. It’s my trusty sidekick at the gigs and a comfortable companion when I want to chill. On the road I use it to arrange fresh music for my gigs or to work on new tracks on the airport terminal or a plane to the next gig as it’s equipped with all basic studio plug ins. I use it to surf the net and to keep in touch with my friends and staff through the Skype and there’s always some fresh movie or a TV series on it to watch in the leisure hours before or after the gig.
How do you feel about the iPad: new toy for play, or a new tool for artists?
I can imagine Apple was under great pressure to offer some new hit product after the success of iPod and iPhone but we will have to see if the iPad will follow that. I am using Macs, iPhones and iPods for years with great satisfaction. Though girls, who are now checking their make up in the shiny screen of iPhone, might find it much more easier to do that on a wider screen of the iPad. One thing I miss the most is keyboard, which is essential for me to produce music. But I am sure that software developers already work on new applications to turn iPad into such a controlling device for the setup such I use at my gigs. I try to travel as light as possible, so I really don’t look forward to transport yet another piece of equipment to my gigs.
What is your favorite website to visit when surfing the internet and why?
I spend at least one whole day a week on Beatport checking new releases and almost as much time on SoundCloud searching what’s new in the promo pools. And we’re all addicts of Facebook! When it comes to online music magazines, I like Resident Advisor the most: it’s very educational, it presents some counter balance to commercial EDM media and pays attention to fresh underground artists as well as established ones. I believe the EDM scene needs commercial as well as alternative media to cover it so that consumers can pick what suits them most.
What is your favorite piece of gear, and what type of sound does it bring to your
productions?
Lately I’ve returned to samples, so I use a lot of sample CDs. I haven’t used them for a while so it’s quite refreshing going back to work with sample CDs. The fresh thing in my line of work is that I now use them in Logic and additionally process them with different plug-ins.
What technology is behind the "talking Umek" on your website, umek.si?
Oh, that’s top-secret space alien technology that I can’t talk about.

This month, Bullitt announces the addition of two new acts to the roster.

Idris Elba, a renowned television and motion picture actor, is already known on both sides the Atlantic due to his acclaimed portrayal of a drug lord “Stringer Bell” in HBO’s The Wire and a prominent guest role on The Office. Even as Elba continues to accept prime roles in Hollywood (he will appear in the cinematic version of the Marvel comic Thor for release in 2011), he is intent on pursuing his other great passion – music. Elba joins Bullitt for special DJ appearances worldwide in a partnership that has already sparked successful events during Winter Music Conference and beyond. Steve Duda comes to Bullitt as a respected producer and innovative performer. His co-productions with his friend Deadmau5 earned him acclaim and a featured spot on Pete Tong’s Radio One show, and his work with reputable artists including Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie, Sugar Ray and Tommy Lee proved his talents for composition and technical efficiency. As a performer, Duda plays mostly his own music including BSOD titles which he sequences on the fly while writing and manipulating drum loops in real time. Duda’s live-feel show, often accompanied by custom visuals, is rewriting the standards for electronic music performance. Joris Voorn’s escalating global profile can be attributed not only to his electrifying live performances, but his cutting-edge work in the studio as well. In alignment with other recent productions, Joris’s rework of Gerd’s 1995 classic “For 12 Minutes She Danced With An Alien” [Rejected] has received continuous airplay from the world’s best tech house artists since its release last month. The track, once known as a 90s-house anthem, has been re-examined through the lens of Joris’s new-school disco influences, and has proven itself as yet another banger in his versatile, ever-evolving line of productions and remixes.
