Bullitt Spotlight: Nadastrom

This month, we catch up with Washington DC-based production and DJ duo Nadastrom in between gigs on their high-profile Scion Tour, a whirlwind showcase of their high-energy shows. Nadstrom—comprised of Matt Nordstrom and Dave Nada—share their answer to world peace and more:
What's up with the yeti?
Yeti was a birthday present to Dave from Matt and Jesse Tittsworth. We were giving it to him during a meeting with our graphic designer at a restaurant in DC. People wanted to stop and get pictures with him. He gets way more girls than Matt and Dave combined.
Can we expect yeti costumes in the future?
Probably not...but we never say never.
You're finding a lot of success with your tech house sound. How do you divide your attention between tech house and electro house?
Music is music regardless of how you slice it—we try and make it all work within our sets. On the production tip, we'll take it whatever direction we feel is necessary and whatever is best for the dance floor.
We never go into the studio with an agenda as far as musical direction. Whatever happens, happens.... Sometimes it's a crazy banger or something deeper.
We never know until it's finished.
You have a very strong presence in DC and Baltimore. In your opinion, what makes a Beltway party special?
The energy of the crowd and how open they are to the music is key.
We are also very fortunate to have great promoters and DJs here like the Nouveau Riche guys, Will Eastman, Stereo Faith, Taxlo DJs, etc. that are bringing new music to the area.
What's the Nadastrom plan for world peace in 2010?
Obama.

A Sneak Peek at Luca Bacchetti's Travel Blog

Bullitt's own Luca Bacchetti—in addition to being a talented DJ—is an insightful writer with a soon-to-go-live travel blog detailing the wonders both big and small of a DJ’s jet-set lifestyle. Below, Luca takes us behind the curtain as he ponders life from a Tokyo bench:
Sitting together on a bench in a small Tokyo bar: a drunk company CEO, an ex-assistant director, a Russian photographer, a Japanese promoter, an Italian DJ...
Ok, sure: things are often on a miniature scale in Japan; but in all my wanderings I've never come across a place quite like this...a collection of small bars...minute, intimate spaces stacked next to each other...max. Ten people deployed on three levels...alleys illuminated by red lanterns creating a special atmosphere...a sort of village at the heart of a pulsating metropolis which manages to transmit a soulful line throughout the chaotic grooves and restore equilibrium, bringing warmth and a human dimension that's invariably lost in this incessant race.
Nombei Yokocho: another side of Tokyo by night—mixing cultures and dreams with what soon emerges as the common denominator...the wish to take a big bite out of life, the wish to live it on the edge...bound by a sense of freedom born of the interpretation of utopic visions...escape from reality...as the by now collapsed CEO demonstrates so effectively.
The promoter comments, "See, this is typically Japanese—he was absolutely perfect until a couple of hours ago!"
The waitress continues to smile and serve drinks, the assistant director reminisces of the time he was in Sardinia, the photographer pulls out her book with portraits of contemporary artists...she's a big fan of Jazzanova...and all along Janis Joplin toys with me as she lounges within the picture frame behind the counter and smiles, "You should have been there! Where were you? You've no idea what you missed!"
Last night I played Womb: one of the most amazing clubs on the planet, you can tell the minute you walk in, the dark walls speak...adrenaline hits...the best natural drug the body can produce...they speak of magic...energy...perfect unison...sharing...this party will stick in my head for a long time to come.

A Taste of Synthesis on The Hills

Coming off a breathtaking performance at Beats on the Beach in Abu Dhabi—celebrating Yasalam and the lead-up to Formula 1's inagural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix alongside Tahnee, Abri, Ragheb Alama, Dany Neville and Timbaland—deck star and Queen of Drum & Bass Charissa Saverio, aka DJ Rap, is giving fans a sneak peek of her new album Synthesis (out on Ministry of Sound in February 2010).
The lead-off single, Give It All Away, is already receiving hype from critics and DJs alike, while the rock-edged I Just Wanna Feel Good was featured on the Tuesday, 03 November episode of MTV's hit series, The Hills. The track can now be found online exclusively at Rhapsody.
Synthesis, a rock-tronic hybrid album, is the follow up to DJ Rap's successful Learning Curve. A darker, edgier side of DJ Rap emerges as she plays guitar and piano on the majority of the album and sings all the vocals as well. Take a bit of angst ridden Alanis Morrisette, the melodic dreaminess of Imogean Heap, add a hint of BT—and welcome to Synthesis.
The album’s first single, Give It All Away will be released 30 November exclusively on Beatport in a package including remixes by Sultan & Ned Shepard, Starkillers, Thomas Sagstad and Metasyn.
