Each month, The Bullittin will highlight one of its artists with a Q&A. Our premiere spotlight is with Umek, who has been seducing the masses with his unique blend of music for more than a decade. Here’s what Umek shared with us:
You used to play basketball professionally—do you still play for fun?
"Not anymore. I simply don’t find the time to play."
What's the best thing you can make out of vinyl? We like frisbees.
"Hehe, nice suggestion! I still love vinyl, love the smell of it, love to touch it. Vinyl as artwork looks nice. I’ll always be a collector but I'm totally digital now."
What's your favorite Michael Jackson song?
"Thriller."
Other than Ljubljana, of course, which airport is your favorite?
"The new Barcelona terminal looks nice. Cool shopping, restaurants, and lounges."
Last time we spoke, you didn't have a drivers license. How are you getting around these days?
"I love my bike. It gets me faster to the studio than a taxi. Ljubljana is so small you don’t really need a car. Come winter time I just take a taxi—easy!"

Dubfire, Umek, and Tanzmann Earn DJ Award Nods
Three Bullitt artists have been nominated for 2009 DJ Awards. Rising star Matthias Tanzmann is nominated for Top Minimal DJ, powerhouse Umek earned a nod in the Techno category and the incomparable Dubfire completes the trifecta with a nomination in Tech House.

Cedric Gervais Remains Atop 'America's Best DJ' Standings
Bullitt artist Cedric Gervais currently remains at the top of DJ Times' America's Best DJ contest standings, powered by Pioneer Pro DJ. The annual contest and summer tour that encourages dance-music fans to single out their favorite US-based DJs and crown America’s top jock. 100 DJs are nominated, and standings are released every week until the final tally.
